Description
About 6 years ago the deer ate all our wild phlox. Last year a few plants showed themselves, and this year we have a few more:>) . The butterflies love them, especially the swallowtails.
Phlox, P. paniculata, is a common wildflower in a family of many types. Most are found in North America and are known for their lovely colors. They are a food source for caterpillars, butterflies, deer, ground hogs, and rabbits, and probably many more creatures, especially in the insect family. Some flower in springtime, others bloom in the late summer and fall - all are lovely.
This picture was taken July 28, 2019, in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA> . I used a Canon T5i EOS paired with a Canon 100 mm macro lens to get this image. The sun was very harsh so I used flash to help with the crunchy contrast.

Love the composition of this capture. The black separating the two Phlox creates a daydreamy effect, like a think bubble where the defocused Phlox imagines itself being embraced by a butterfly. Very romantic! L/F (and to be Voted).

This is a beautifully composed photo, on dark backdrop, which intensify the beauty of the butterfly and flowers.

What a great shot with that velvet jet black ground!!! Very wonderful! F/L+++
Carol Senske replied:
I'm so pleased you like this shot. I'm usually only able to try and shot around noon, and the sun is impossible then. Using fill-flash helps and sometimes gives me this nice, dark background.
