I bet you have some. They are out very early in the year and look brown. They choose a sunny leaf or rock and sit.

It's exciting to have them around, especially since they are not as likely to fly away as other butterflies, and you might even get buzzed by a territorial male. Thanks, Kathy! High praise coming from you:>). They really are a deep, deep red brown. Sometimes the border is more creamy colored than this phase with the yellow - we have both at different times of the year. Thanks so much for the lovely comment, fave, and vote!

They are amazingly feisty compared to most butterflies that don't want you near. I think it's that territorial nature- LOL. Thank you for the V/F, Doris.
