Description
These large spiders reach maturity in the fall. They build large webs with a stabilimentum, a zigzag artifact of the web that still has scientists guessing as to its purpose. Although they cold bite, they much prefer to drop to the ground and hide when bothered. Their venom is not poisonous like a black widow. We have 3 species of these large and beautiful spiders in our area.

One of my FAVE spiders! I found several huge ones around our farm a LOONNNG time ago, kept looking for them in subsequent years and never found any again. They are just gorgeous and so huge! L/F

They are amazing. We have a couple different types around here but, like all insects and bugs, they are much less numerous than a few years ago.
