Description
The creek was running wild and strong but the gumballs stayed put; well-named! Amazing how they can cling when they want to:>) The picture was taken March 14, 2015 with an Olympus TG320 point and shoot.
They are the seed pods of the Sycamore tree. Some people call them prickly balls or just plain Sycamore balls. As kids, we called them gumballs - who knows why. These seed pods stay on the trees through the winter and drop off in the Spring to deliver the seeds to the ground. Here's a quick link: http://homeguides.sfgate.com/sycamore-balls-59681.html
