Description
Alas, no identification on this one but it sure is a beauty! At first I thought it migt be a Hygrocyb, but the stem is the wrong color and the cap doesn't have the viscous appearance. Even after the rain was over, the cap appeared wet. It's a relatively small mushroom (approx.1 -- 2 inches tall) growing in a hardwood forest in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
This photo was taken August 18, 2011. There were many scattered throughout the area after quite a few days of rain.

Wow Carol I have spent a lot of time in the woods but this mushroom is a new one for me it is very striking looks like a extraterrestrial or maybe a jelly fish on land !

2011 was an unremittingly wet summer and these mushroom (and many others!) took full advantage and grew almost everywhere in the woods. This past summer was much drier and I found very few - glad I took so many shots the previous year:>) Thanks for the wonderful comment!

These mushrooms really are this deep, bright red! Awesome to see among the debris of the forest floor.
