Description
This saltwater fishing lure (sometimes called a plug) is a "popper". It's made to chug along the surface of the water and make popping noise and throw up some spray. The fisherman needs to reel it in with a jerking motion to get the proper action.
My husband makes his own lures for us to use and, I'm happy to report, they do work and we do catch fish:>)
I look on them as mini works of practical art. He starts with a particular type of wood, decides on a shape, uses the lathe to get it properly shaped, drills and cuts holes for various hardware, the weights, and the eyes, airbrushes the pattern he wants, puts it all together and - voila! - a lure:>) We then take it to the creek where the water is clear and cam and test them for proper placement in the water column and excellence of action. Great fun:>)
