Great macro shot Carol. I love how you notice the little things in life. Super. f/v :)

Carol Senske replied:

You are very generous, Kathy - thanks:>) I do like to find the smaller things that people often miss; it's fun to introduce them to the world at their feet LOL. Many thanks for the V/F, too!

Artist's Description

The Eyed Click Beetle is nearly two inches long (one of the largest click beetles) and has a range throughout the eastern United States and up through Ontario, Canada. The big eye designs are merely markings that probably scare away predators. The real eyes are quite small and are found at the base of the antennae.

This is the family of beetles that as kids we'd lay on their backs to watch them "click" and pop upright.

I believe this one is laying eggs in the hole in the decaying log. the picture was taken May 2, 2011, in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA.

About Carol Senske

Carol Senske

I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....
