I was sick yesterday and trying to catch up when faa makes you go to the site to comment is really frustrating. I keep forgetting, writing a nice compliment and then it won't take it....I'm getting nowhere fast.

Carol Senske replied:

I hope you're feeling okay now!

I hate when FAA doesn't take the darn comment - oh, well. I'm totally at home with bats in my belfry, and I'll gladly share a few bats with you:>). Thank you, dear Lady, for sending the old warrior some love!

Call me batty too, this is the one I've been waiting for. It's my favorite as well Carol. And deserves blue glass. v/f

love this photo, especially the coloring .... great description, you certainly know your lures .... f/v ..... patricia

Carol Senske replied:

I certainly appreciate the visit, comment, and V/F Patricia:>). Lures are like everything else - so much to know! You wouldn't think it, would you. I have very minimal knowledge; my husband knows a fair amount, but there are die-hard collectors out there who know EVERYTHING! They eat, drink, and sleep vintage lures, but they also go for the pristine, like-new lures that I eschew. Some of the old lures can sell for thousands of dollars! I found this one for free:>)

well done

Carol Senske replied:

Well, thank you so very much, Chris!

A real WOW factor on this one of a kind find and capture, Carol! I truly love the natural look to the elements of this fine piece, and the "plug" LURES the eyes towards the center of the piece, where one can enjoy all the elements surrounding it. Very well captured and superbly presented. Thanks for sharing the piece and the great description detailing the infamous capture of this wonder of nature and man made elements, which proves they CAN compliment each other. Got my F/V on this superbly captured and presented piece of work!

Carol Senske replied:

You got me "all shook up" :>). Thanks for the feature, Randy - very much appreciated as is the magnificent comment, vote, and FAVE:>)

I am with you this is really a good looking fishing lure. There is a wonderful charm about these oldies

Carol Senske replied:

Ah, a sympatico friend! Thank you, Bob, for understanding the draw of the unbroken spirit and unspoken secrets of old and dilapidated things:>) There is dignity and stength there.

Artist's Description

My husband thinks I'm batty, but this is my very favorite vintage saltwater fishing lure. I found it one day when I was walking the beach, looking for treasures among the trash. This immediately caught my eye:>). I love that it came back to the beach and stayed where I would find it:>). Now it lives in my curio cabinet in a place of honor. The other vintage lures are all labelled and hung carefully in my husbands carving room; my lure gets an antique, blue glass plate to lay on - so there!

Here is what I know:
It is carved from wood, probably cedar, and it's been in the ocean long enough to have the softer wood partially washed away while the harder part of the grain remains.
It probably had only one set of hooks that hung from the belly - you can see the grommet and the hole.
I think it was through-wired (hole in front and back).
The "face" is concave (some of the red paint remains) and so is probably a popper.
It was weighted in front of where the ho...

About Carol Senske

Carol Senske

I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....
