Vintage (sometimes called antique) fishing tackle is a hot collector's item and is only gaining in popularity. At the top of the list are old, wooden lures which are highly valued when in pristine condition. There are favorite colors, makers, and styles. Saltwater plugs have a serious and dedicated following. We enjoy these old pieces of history, but I differ from my husband in that I love the battered and worn ones that show the scars of battles with feisty fish and the handling by avid fishermen. I even have one I found on the beach that is barely recognizable. It may show up here sometime in the future as I am totally taken with it.
I've overlaid a photo of surf with the picture of the lure.
I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

Carol, this photo is terrific my friend, I was so busy reading your history of the lures that I was totally shocked to see the beautiful overlay..when all I was expecting was the lure. brilliant work my dear friend.
Carol Senske replied:

A very creative and spectacular capture on this one, Carol! I love your description, which helps the non fisherman, to understand the true story behind lures. I like this one a lot, but would like to see the "battered" up one as well, but not sure I would like to see what "the other guy looks like" after the battle. LOL This is truly a very creative piece, and your background and surroundings make it have a depth and perspective one would not expect when photo shooting a lure. Very well done, Carol! Yes, I did love to fish, and yes, Elvis did love to fish, thus you get the big "Elvis" F/V on this creative and exemplary piece of work, and thanks much for sharing! Much appreciated!
