Description
Frisco Pier began falling into disrepair many years ago, and we watched it slowly disintegrate until Sandy pretty much finished it off. The sea is an inexorable force, not to be denied. Time and tides will reclaim the beach unless we people constantly do upkeep, nature wins:>)
Here's a last nod to an old warrior; many folks fished from her deck. Now the remaining pilings provide safe shelter and food for fish - unsafe for people.

It's always a compliment when someone takes the time to drop in and leave a "fave" - thanks, Hilde!

So tell me did you walk out to end of the pier :)) This is really a great photograph Carol. Always sad to see these old beauties slowly fall into the sea. VF
Carol Senske replied:
Unsafe either atop or below. I believe I heard that a family bought the remains and may rebuild. It's never the same, however, and each board gone represents a loss of things "as they used to be". I know we need to move on with life, but it is with regret that I say good-bye to some icons like this old pier. We fished among it's pilings and in it's shadow many, many times. My constant unhappiness at the trash that is everywhere makes me want to figure out a project to heighten awareness of our human destruction of our planet. The 5 huge gyres that float in our oceans is an example of trash gone wild. This is truly tragic - see http://5gyres.org/ OOOPS - sorry for the off-subject rambling. Thank you for your lovely comment, Bob, and the V/F - always very much appreciated!!!!!

Great nostalgia here!!!! A lesson to be learned from nature! We loved the Outer Banks! Went there every summer for many years! FV
Carol Senske replied:
We, too, used to go every year and fish and walk the nature trails but haven't been back for two years with all the storms and some other family stuff. It is a lovely place!
