Artist's Description
This picture of milkweed pods is, to me, a reminder that even in death there is beauty and new life. The pods are empty but their seeds have flown and will start new plants.
This poem is one of my favorites because my baby sister loved it and read it often as she lay ill and dying. It gave her peace, I think, so I use it often.
About Carol Senske
I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

I forgot to add this to my comment, I see that the poem, so lovely is a small piece of a larger piece called "Finally Home" by L.E. Singer and Don Wyrtzenr. I believe L. E. Singer wrote the lyrics/poem and that Don Wyrtzen wrote the music more recently. I was so inspired by how you did your card and your description, I had to go to Amazon and download an Mp3 of this song, found a nice vocal of it by someone named Chelsea Janzen.
Carol Senske replied:
I am so pleased to learn the origin of these beautiful and touching words. I'm going to search out the song and listen. I will also need to search for my original design and change it to give credit to the writer. This was such a comfort to my sister. You've given me a gift, Paula - thank you:>)
