This is the resident raccoon who arrives every afternoon to raid the bird feeders of their seed and suet. The pole holds the wire that keeps the feeders high above the ground, but it is no deterrent for her! She climbs like an acrobat.
Somehow she understand we won't hurt her, and she retreats only four or five feet if we go out the kitchen door. We do not want her tame, but they are smart animals and can figure things out - we are friendly.
This picture was taken this afternoon, June 20, 2018, in Green Lane, Pennsylvania,USA. I used the Canon T5i and a Tamron lens - macro 90 mm - ISO 400, exposure 1/30 sec at f/9.0 - handheld.
Raccoons are easily as inventive and determined as Gray Squirrels only much bigger.
I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever harmed in the picture-taking process, but some things that wander into our home (like spiders) are carefully removed from the house after they serve as "models"....

Kay Novy
Very cute! And the title gave me a good laugh! L.F.
Carol Senske replied:
Hi, Kay. She is adorable and we love having her around. Pretty smart cookie, too. If I take the pole away, she climbs the tree the feeder cable is attached to, then she goes paw-over-paw, upside down, out to the feeder. She will not be deterred. WhenI go out and she climbs down to walk a little bit away, she'll go over to the bird bath and pretend to drink while eyeing me up.
