Description
Flickers are large woodpeckers, about the size of a Robin, and one of the most understated, beautiful birds around here. They like feeding on the ground or picking insects off tree limbs (often upside down). In winter they readily come to suet.

This picture was taken January 8, 2015, in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA. I used my Canon T4i with a Tamron 150-600 lens (shot through the kitchen window). I love the Tamron lenses!

Could be my favorite bird and what a wonderful portrait you've captured. Love how hidden he is in his bed of snow and fall leaves. Fabulous!! F/L++

IT looks cold, poor thing! You seem to get a lot of great shots through your kitchen window :)
Carol Senske replied:
:>). They are wonderful woodpeckers - absolutely magnificent when you see the yellow underneath their wings and tail. I am very grateful for our kitchen window:>)

A true natural beauty with this little guy with great camouflage, but for us, not effective enough to hide its true beauty! Nice job, Carol! I am very pleased to make this special FEATURE, on our homepage of the Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery Homepage. It is of the highest quality and integrity and this piece of artwork is very well deserving of high accolades by all members of FAA! I am proud to display and promote your grand artworks, and am very happy to have you as a member of our family of friends and fine artists within our WFS group. Liked & Faved Forever, Elvis

I had a nest in our Silver Maple tree and my photographs didn't really turn out but I watched for weeks and I have such a love for this bird. Wow....this is such a good shot of the Flicker!!!
Carol Senske replied:
I'm so jealous! You must have loved having them so close while raising heir babies:>)
