Description
These pretty caterpillars are found in hardwood forests where there is plenty of food. They eat hickory, walnut, ash, oak, and many other types of trees. When first hatched, the caterpillars are colonial, but as they age they become solitary. They winter over under leaves in loose cocoons that use some of their bristles. Tussock moths can be minor pests, but around here they don't do enough damage to cause any worries.
