Description
These shelf fungi (also called bracket or plate fungi) are rather large, bright orange/yellow and hard to miss. This colony is growing right now on a downed tree that is deteriorating. The fungus is common in North American hardwood forests - beautiful.
This picture was taken October 12, 2013, in Green Lane, Pennsylvnaia, USA.
I use a Canon T4i camera with a Tamron macro lens.

Love that you did this is b/w Carol to bring out the incredible detail in these fungi. I didn't know that was the common name for these either - love learning something new. They always mark an aging tree to me, one rotting and ready to come down. Amazing work my friend. F/V
Carol Senske replied:
They are, indeed, a portent of things to come. The real guts of the fungus is inside the tree. All we see here are the fruiting bodies:>) You're always a welcome guest, Lianne! XO

You're so lovely to leave this wonderful comment! Having black and white images is quite different from what I've done for so long:>) Thank you, and thanks again for the V/F!
