Description
These are exceedingly bright and beautiful bracket fungi. They grow on dead trees and can live for years. If you look on the lower right of the tree you'll see last year's fruiting bodies now changed to brown. These amazingly colorful fungi are just the fruiting bodies - the rest of the fungus is inside the tree where we don't see it. The colors here are slightly saturated because of the exposure, but they are very close to true.

The picture was taken September 10, 2014, in the Musser Scout Reservation in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA. I used a Canon T4i with a Tamron 18-270 lens. I chose to post this image instead of a closer one to show you the habitat.

There are so many fungi and so little time! These are always a delight to find. Some people eat them but I say - NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EAT A WILD FUNGUS OF ANY SORT unless you are an expert! Fungi have so many shapes, colors, sizes - love 'em all:>)
